Ive recently discovered a pretty cool site called Fiverr.com, its a site for people to buy and sell services for 5 bucks, no more, no less. theres a lot of creative stuff being sold there, but Ive started making money off what I was already doing for free on occasion anyway, drawing caricatures based on people's photos. I know its better to do this sort of thing in person, but I rarely have that luxory...

Anyway, here are some of the results so far. Im realitively new to caricatures, Im used to drawing realistic, or straight up cartoony. Im hoping to branch out a bit, to train my eyes see each face's distintive features, figuring out what to exaggerate and what not to.

So far its been hard for me, a lot of times I worry I dont have the likeness down enough, but since Im charging rediculously low prices I figure that should make up for it if they dont think it looks like them enough. theres also the whole dont offend them too much thing which Im sure a lot of artists struggle with at first.

Animorphs fan film

what seems like forever ago me and a handful of people were planing to do an Animorphs Fan film completely in CG. long story short, all that fell through. ( scrol down to an older post for the long version if you like)

While nothing really came out of that project, I did have a number of assets still. while searching on youtube I stumbled on this guy, Adam Hawker, who was working on an Animorphs fan film in live action, so I offered to help out with some of the ships, and that led to pretty much all the 3d stuff he would need, including creatures. Since I already had an andalite model I animated some shots of dialogue between Visser 3 and Alfangor. In October 07 he posted a rough cut of the first 10 mins on youtube. check it out if you want. (keep in mind a lot of those shots have since been redone)

Months back my hard drive died, I'm back at square one. So after much procrastination I restarted modeling my andalite. this looks to be turning out much better than my original one, who died with my hard drive. its taking me a while to do though.

Ive been trying to research centaurs to get a better on idea of the anatomy. one good thing Ive seen was a behind the scenes footage of Narnia, which I think was the most convincing centaurs to date. I'll look to horse galloping footage to animation reference once I get this done and rigged.

I hope to add more defined muscles and maybe some ribs, however I need it to stay clean for animation. so I might end up faking some of it with textures.

there are 2 definitions of speed paint, one is painting fast, the other is just a time lapse. and that's what this is. this was the first time I was able to paint without severe lag. it turned out pretty well I think, though the right cheek looks off.

I know some things are off. the most obvious being the angle and size of the muzzle/cheek area. the eye winkles also should be placed a bit higher up to fill that unused space on the right.

this was was a box I created just for the heck of it. I think it turned out pretty awesome.

Animorphs: a fan film that never was

About two years back me and another guy decided to colab and work on a full length animorph's fan film. I haven't read every book, but I was a pretty big fan when they were in their prime in the late 90s and had just started getting back into them a bit. even bought some of the other books I missed off ebay. anyway, back on topic, me and the other guy (sorry, I cant remember his name at the mement) started discussing things on aim first and we decided we were going to need more help. he set up a forum and we set out to see if anyone else would be willing to join our team/studio, which we were thinking about calling "paragraph pictures". we slowly progressed a bit and recruited about 4 team members. we thought we had a decent start, we had writers, texture artists, models/animators (that would be me and the other dude).

We barely had a basic plot going before we even started. we started modeling things we knew any animorph fan would want in a fan film.
you got your dome ships, andlite fighter ships, bug fighters, andilites, yeerk and a hork bijur. pretty much everything but the stars of the film: the animophs themselves. not to mention the many animals they were supposed to morph into.

After talking it about a bit we figured modeling and animating humans would be too difficult to do with the tools we were using. (mainly a freeware aplication called "Anim8or")

The program is great for introducing people to 3d modeling and animation, however being free and all it was very limiting. more so in the rendering department than anythingelse.

Never the less we wanted to continue on.
I quickly made this make shift teaser trailer of sorts. more for my amusment than anything else. it can now be found on you tube.

it didn't take long though before we realised just how over ambitious we were.
at first we trying to make some compromises such as shorting it dramatically. but even that didn't really work out. and the rest of the team wasnt really with us. part of that was due to being in many different time zones. it was hard to contact them all at once in real time. so communication was difficult. everyone started to loose interest. the other guy tried to just encourage me to continue, but I had lost my earlier motivation.

but none of the little things really mattered. the main reason it never really got into production was simple: we didn't have a clear direction. we had a very vague idea of what kind of movie/short we wanted to make and got way too ahead of ourselves.
In the real world you need a lot of planing before you even think about the minor details. we went about this whole thing backwards. But I'd like to think it wasnt a total waste, and that I came out of it knowing that the next time I even think about doing another project, I'll plan out as many things as I possibly can. and maybe think on a smaller scale. I haven't done any thing with a story before afterall, so I was out of my mind to think I could pull off something that ambitious.

There was some cool models to come out of this project though, and I'll share some more of them with you if I ever get around to rendering them again.

I did this about two years back I think. I dont really remember.
I tried to get it as accurate as possible. which was hard considering how few reference images there are for this famous lamp. go ahead, google it yourself. I doubt you will find decent references.

Nintendo Revolution: paper model

some Nintendo fans have been making these to get a feel for how the controler will feel in our hands.things like button placement, and size. it was a real pain to assemble, thats for sure.

here we have a size comparison of the revolution remote and the Nes controler.
its not far off as you can see.

Photoshop Painting: Distant Vision

This is mainly just an experiment in photoshop. its one of my first efforts at doing anything from scratch in photoshop. I think I had Disney on the brain, because looking at it again, it seems I used key elements from Pocahontas(color), Lion king(the cliff and scope), and Aladdin (the sun and hill on the right). you can see the pic in its full resolution over at deviantart.com right here.

Prop replica: communicator from Power Rangers

If you were ever into power rangers as a kid, you probably wanted a communicator.
you got the toy version, but hated that it wasnt as good as the tv version. am I right?

well so did I, so I spent about 75 bucks total to make my own.
actually "assemble" is probably a beter term. its just the the parts are pretty rare and expensive in most cases. lukily I found someone to provide me with two of the most vital parts for this replica.

This prop is not yet complete, as I still have to find something to fill the gaps to make it more screen accurate. the middle piece came from a metal limited edition power ranger watch. the green center mesh was givin to me by a someone I know online. the same person sold me the bands, as well as made me the yellow button out of resin and painted it.

the first pic shows off a bunch of angles. this second one shows a close up of the face. you will also notice the green mesh is more "3d" IE, more elevated now. it pops out toward the grill piece more.

I used to be pretty into the animorphs series, both the books and tv show (dispite how low budget the tv series was).
